Description Over the years, many authors have gone beyond writing a simple story and instead have established extensive timelines and cultures built either from our own or in a totally unrelated society. In this study group, we will explore a variety of these works and their histories, looking at them through the lenses of both Science Fiction and History.

Some likely authors to be included are Robert Heinlein, Cordwainer Smith, Gene Wolfe, Isaac Asimov, HG Wells, Jack London, David Brin, and Octavia Butler. We will also look at some works by "futurists" such as Alvin Toffler.

There will be a lot of reading in this course and some writing, as well.
