| Description | In this study group, we will learn the basic structure of a mummers' play and see how it relates to the change of season. We'll look at plays from different times of the year but focus on the winter solstice tradition, as we prepare for our performance. We'll teach songs that accompany mumming, including calling-on songs for longsword dances. In conjunction with the history piece, we'll read through and perform bits of plays for each other. We'll also learn simple longsword figures. Our hope is to write an original mummers' play for Voyagers based on the traditions that the kids are learning in the study group. As with all Revels education projects, we hope that the Voyagers' mummers' play will become a yearly tradition for the community. |
