| Description | This study group is inspired by Mitsumasa Anno's books, including Math Games and The Mysterious Multiplying Jar. We'll take concepts like measuring things and explore them in fun ways, such as making our own rulers to compare all our heights, and seeing how many "feet" something is long (my foot or yours? both!). We'll make timelines using our birthdays, and do estimates of volume by guessing how many objects are in a jar. We'll use big loops to make our own Venn diagrams, and see which objects fit in which section of the diagram; after we have done that, we'll see what kinds of puzzles can be solved with Venn diagrams. We'll use tangrams to make various kinds of pictures, and fill in grids to see how pixels work. Some projects will be individual and others will require the whole group to work together. |
